Year 5 D&T workshop
The first of our primary workshops for Year 5 students kicked off this term with a Design and Technology workshop on Thursday 2nd October.
The workshops provide an exciting opportunity for Year 5s to visit our school and take part in engaging workshops in a range of subjects. The first D&T focused workshop challenged students to consider the role design plays in everyday life, looking at how it can solve problems and how design start with a spark of imagination in our minds!
Year 5 students worked alongside Year 9, 10 and 13 D&T students at Trinity to look at how to solve a relevant and real-world problem of seagulls stealing food from people at the beach! The students looked into the problem and did some research, before developing some innovative design ideas through sketching and modelling.
The students enjoyed being able to show their creativity and try something new in a new secondary school setting.
At the end of the workshop, the most creative solutions saw a number of students awarded with a trophy for their excellent design thinking. All of the students who attended were also able to take away their design work and prototypes with a keyring and certificate as a souvenir to recognise their efforts and work in the workshop – living up to our school motto of Personal Excellence and Collective Responsibility.
