Trinity School Regional Mock Trial Winners 2026

Trinity Win Again!

Trinity School’s Year 9 Mock Trial Team have been crowned Regional Champions of the Magistrates Mock Trial competition. On Saturday 16th May they took part in the regional finals held at Reading Magistrates Court.  Following their victory in the local heats in March, the team of students competed in two trials against schools from all over the South East. The fictional case was one of assault following a disagreement in a pub, with a brawl in the street leading to a victim with cracked ribs and a defendant charged with actual bodily harm.

In round 1 Trinity’s defence lawyers gained praise against Emmbrook School for their clear arguments and persistent questioning, and their witnesses were utterly convincing as the manager of the pub, and a passerby who tried to intervene. They faced tough opposition from the Emmbrook team, remining calm and in control when cross examining their witnesses. Trinity’s Usher, Rafe Smith, kept everyone well in control with his impressive ‘court rise!’.

In round two Trinity prosecuted the same case against Didcot Girls’ School. This gave the opportunity for Trinity Prosecution Lawyers to test their mettle against some spirited and uncooperative witnesses, with some particularly heated exchanges in the cross examinations. Trinity’s lawyers were praised by the Judge for their quick thinking and sharp responses, and their witnesses were unflappable under sustained questioning from the opposing defence. A clear and confident speech from the Trinity lead prosecutor and meticulous guidance from their legal adviser secured the conviction.

Dr Wilson, Executive Headteacher said “the victory was well deserved, reflecting months of preparation and hard work, as well as a healthy amount of performance and flair on the day. There is no doubt we have future lawyers, police officers and legal experts in the making – I am so proud of them all.”
